Things to do in Kazimierz Dolny
Kazimierz Dolny is a small town on the Vistula in the Lublin region, set in the Lesser Poland Vistula Gorge. A former royal town that gained staple rights in 1335, it grew wealthy on the grain trade. Today it draws visitors with the Renaissance Przybyła and Celej townhouses, castle ruins overlooking the river and loess ravines such as Korzeniowy Dół. From the riverside you can take the ferry to Janowiec, and nearby Mięćmierz is a former rafting village with a windmill. Every June the town hosts a folk music festival held since 1966. Allow one to two days for the town and surroundings, and expect far fewer crowds on weekdays than at weekends. There is no railway, so come by car or by bus from Puławy or Lublin. Kazimierz forms a popular triangle with Puławy and Nałęczów.
