Museums
Kazimierz Dolny, Lublin
The Museum of Goldsmithing Art in Kazimierz Dolny is a branch of the Vistula Museum that describes itself as the only museum of its kind in Poland. Set in the historic cellars of the museum's main building on the Market Square, it displays silverware, church plate, Judaica and jewelry spanning more than a thousand years of Polish goldsmithing. It is small, quiet and a genuinely unusual thing to do in Kazimierz Dolny, especially on a rainy day.
Kazimierz Dolny is a historic river town in eastern Poland, about 60 km (an hour's drive) from Lublin and roughly 150 km (just over two hours) from Warsaw. The museum is at Rynek 19, right on the main square.
The branch opened in 1979, built around a gift from collector Jędrzej Jaworski, who donated 550 pieces of antique silver, about 80% of them Polish. Purchases, private donations and long-term loans from institutions such as the National Museum in Warsaw and Wawel Royal Castle in Kraków followed. Today the collection numbers around 1,900 objects.
A Temporary Exhibitions Gallery in the same building has a separate ticket. Allow 45–75 minutes for the permanent display.
The building has a ramp, an elevator and an accessible restroom with a baby-changing table — rare in a historic town center. Exhibit labels may be mainly in Polish, so a translation app on your phone can help.
If you enjoy decorative arts, design or social history, yes — the hallmarked silver tells you exactly who made what and where, which is rare. Combine it with the Celej House branch: the 50 PLN pass pays off once you visit three branches (for example goldsmithing, the Celej House and the Natural History Museum, which cost 53 PLN separately). With kids, turn the visit into a detective game by hunting for the tiny hallmarks stamped into the silver.
Buses run to Kazimierz Dolny from Puławy (nearest train station) and Lublin. Drivers must use the designated car parks. Steps away are the Przybyła Brothers' Townhouses; a few minutes' walk brings you to the Celej House, the castle ruins and Three Crosses Hill.
