The Tower in Kazimierz Dolny

The round stone tower stands on the castle hill above Kazimierz Dolny. It belongs to the Castle Complex but predates the castle, having been built at the end of the 13th century. From the top, it overlooks the Vistula valley and the town.

A watchtower above the Vistula

The tower is about 20 metres high and 10 metres in diameter; its walls reach roughly 4 metres thick at the base. Its position above a Vistula crossing points to a watchtower function. A viewing platform once stood at the top, while a dungeon survives below the entrance level.

Panorama and the castle hill

From the top, you can see the castle ruins, collegiate church, market square, Vistula and surrounding hills. Visit the tower together with the castle ruins, which form one ticketed complex. Afterwards, continue to Kazimierz’s centre or the Hill of Three Crosses. It is an easy way to combine history, architecture and a Vistula landscape in one walk.

Hours, tickets and rules

The operator’s current page publishes a date-dependent schedule; the checked Castle Complex price list shows PLN 15 regular and PLN 10 reduced. The last entry to the tower is 15 minutes before closing. Visits are individual and take place in the presence of an exhibition attendant; children and teenagers under 17 may enter only with an adult. The wooden staircase is narrow, steep and low-ceilinged, so wear comfortable shoes. The complex may close during icy conditions, storms, heavy rain or heavy snow.
