Parish Church in Kazimierz Dolny

The Parish Church in Kazimierz Dolny, dedicated to St John the Baptist and St Bartholomew, is one of the key monuments of the Lublin Renaissance. It stands beside Kazimierz’s market square and combines the parish’s medieval origins with a later, richly developed form. Go inside not only for the architecture but also for the remarkable interior and historic organ.

Architecture and interior

The church has a Gothic-Renaissance body with distinctive gables, strapwork decoration and a tall vaulted interior. Inside, notice the stucco ornament, the high altar, side chapels and furnishings donated by townspeople and local families. The contrast between the austere silhouette and the richly decorated interior helps explain why the parish church is one of Kazimierz Dolny’s defining landmarks.

Organ and music

The most valuable item is the Baroque organ dating from 1620, often described as the oldest surviving and still playable instrument of its kind in Poland. Its sound can be heard during organ concerts, held mainly in the summer season. Check the current programme if music is the reason for your visit.

Practical visiting information

According to the parish regulations, visiting hours are 10:00–17:00 on weekdays in the summer season, 11:00–15:00 in winter, and 14:00–17:00 on Sundays and public holidays. Visits are not allowed during Masses, weddings, funerals or other ceremonies; last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Entry is free, but modest dress is required. Allow 30–45 minutes.
