Biskupice Podgórne Palace

In Biskupice Podgórne, just outside Wrocław in the Kobierzyce municipality, you can trace two country houses. The white palace with an onion-domed tower, visible from afar, dates from the late 19th century – the national heritage register dates it to the end of the century, and the local history site polska-org.pl gives 1897. Next to it stood a much older Baroque manor house from the first half of the 18th century, demolished in 1975. Mixing the two up is why many descriptions call the palace Baroque.

Palace and manor – two different buildings

The palace is a brick building on a rectangular plan with a small front projection, two rooms deep and two storeys high, with a partly usable attic. It has a gabled roof with hipped ends and dormers above the window axes. The Baroque manor covered about 293 m² and had a projection divided by pilasters and three arcades. In 1945 it was described as being in good condition, but over the following decades it fell into ruin – despite being listed in 1966, it was pulled down nine years later.

From state farm to private hands

After 1945 the palace was abandoned and absorbed into the local state farm (PGR), and it gradually decayed. In the 1990s it returned to private ownership, and gradual renovation began around 2002. The palace complex is on the regional heritage register together with its park from 1870, where a pond survives – its bank offers the best view of the palace reflected in the water.

The palace on ul. Polna is privately owned, so view it from outside, from the road and the park side – don't enter the grounds without the owner's permission. A short stop of 15–20 minutes is enough.
