Palace in Biskupice Podgórne

South-west of Wrocław, in the Kobierzyce commune, stands a Baroque palace from the first half of the 18th century. After years under military and state-farm management the complex returned to private hands and was meticulously restored — today it impresses with both its massing and its recreated interiors.

Baroque architecture

The palace was built in the first half of the 18th century and rebuilt and enlarged in the 19th century. The three-storey building has a gabled roof with dormers, the facade is adorned with a small loggia, decorative frames surround the windows, and the main entrance is preceded by tall ceremonial stairs. On the eastern side a sandstone portal survives, flanked by two Doric half-columns, with a keystone and a broken pediment holding a cartouche with the builders' coat of arms.

Army, state farm, private investor

From 1945 the palace fell into decay: it served the army and later a state farm. At the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries it came into the hands of a private investor who undertook the renovation. The interiors were recreated with attention to detail: stucco decorations, chandeliers and antique furniture.

Park with a pond and the manor farm

The residence is surrounded by a historic park laid out in 1870 with a pond, and a hotel operates in the restored farm buildings. Nearby lie other residences of Lower Silesia, including Topacz Castle.

The palace stands on Polna Street in Biskupice Podgórne. It is a private hotel property — it is best seen from the outside, during a stay at the hotel or after contacting the owners.
