Topacz Castle

Topacz Castle (Zamek Topacz, pronounced roughly "ZAH-mek TOH-pach") in the village of Ślęza, just beyond Wrocław's southern city limits, is a medieval residential tower that grew into a Renaissance manor and now operates as a hotel with restaurants and a spa. Day visitors come mainly for two things: a Motor Museum with more than 100 historic vehicles, including Poland's largest Rolls-Royce and Bentley collection, and Lumina Park, a seasonal light trail in the castle grounds.

Where it is and how to get there

Ślęza lies in Kobierzyce municipality, directly south of Wrocław, the capital of Lower Silesia in southwestern Poland. The drive from central Wrocław takes about 15–20 minutes, and Wrocław airport is also close by. There is parking on site. Address: ul. Templariuszy 1, Ślęza, 55-040 Kobierzyce.

A short history

The oldest part is a 14th–15th-century residential tower, once surrounded by a moat and later raised by a storey. A south wing was added in 1618, along with a fireplace bearing a burgher coat of arms; it is one of only two surviving medieval residential towers around Wrocław. Its historic German name is Schloss Lohe. The owners also tell a more romantic story, of a first tower built by the Knights Templar and of ownership by the Wierzynek family of Kraków merchants in 1359–1383; treat these as the hotel's own tradition. After decades of decline, the estate was restored (works ran from 2006 to 2015), and the hotel opened in 2011.

The Motor Museum

The two-floor exhibition has more than 100 exhibits:

• interwar cars and motorcycles
• the Rolls-Royce & Bentley collection of vehicles and memorabilia
• landmark vehicles in motoring history, plus communist-era Polish motorcycles and mopeds
• a kids' corner with a mini garage, a driving simulator and tunnels

Pets are welcome. Allow 1–1.5 hours. Every August the grounds host the MotoClassic Wrocław classic car show.

Opening hours (as of October 2026): closed Mondays; Tuesday 11 am–7 pm; Wednesday–Sunday 11 am–9 pm.

Lumina Park

From October to February, the park around the castle becomes a 1.5 km light trail with installations made of millions of colored lights. According to the organizer's website, the 2026/2027 season opens in mid-October, running Wednesday to Sunday evenings with last entry at 8 pm. Standard tickets cost PLN 39–43, cheaper midweek and online. The walk takes about 90 minutes.

Is it worth visiting?

If you like classic cars, yes: the Rolls-Royce and Bentley collection is unique in Poland. With children, a winter evening at Lumina Park combined with the museum makes an easy half-day trip from Wrocław. The castle itself is a hotel, so its interiors are mainly for guests and restaurant visitors. Before or after the museum, take a short stroll through the historic park with its pond and millrace. Prices are in Polish złoty (PLN), and online ticket sales make planning easy.
