New Year's Eve 2026 in Poland: Where to Go

New Year's Eve 2026 falls on a Thursday and New Year's Day on a Friday, so it is easy to turn it into a long weekend. The catch is that it is the end of October and almost no city has announced a programme yet. So we do not promise headliners nobody has confirmed. We keep three things apart: what is already known for 2026, how recent editions looked (always labelled with the year) and where to watch for new announcements. Big cities usually publish programmes in November and December: the Zakopane event for 2025/26 was described in the media on 8 November, while city guides to New Year's Eve in Wrocław and Gdańsk only appeared at the end of December.

Zakopane: the concert on Równia Krupowa

What is certain. New Year's Eve under the Tatras has long meant an open-air concert on Równia Krupowa. From 2016 to 2023 it was organised with TVP, and according to money.pl it drew as many as 45,000 people. The current city authorities switched to a smaller format. The 2024/25 edition took place on 31 December from 19:00, with free entry, Podhale ensembles and a folk repertoire (the city's announcement named Brathanki, Skaldowie, Trebunie-Tutki and Krywań). In 2025/26 the city's partner was Radio Złote Przeboje of the Agora group, and organisers expected around 10,000 people. The description on zakopane.com gives gates opening at about 18:00, concerts from 19:00 and an end around 1:30, with Future Folk, Szafa Gra, De Mono and Gipsy King Party among the performers.

What is not known yet. The organiser, media partner, times and performers for 2026 have not been announced. As in previous years, information will appear on the city website zakopane.pl and from the Zakopane Cultural Centre.

Good to know. Zakopane has a year-round ban on fireworks and firecrackers, which the organisers repeat. Traffic in the centre can be restricted and car parks fill up quickly, so it is best to walk to the concert. For the 2024/25 edition the city also announced extra rail connections. By day: Krupówki, Gubałówka and Wielka Krokiew.

Kraków: no big stage on the Main Square

What is certain. On the Main Square there is no regular city event with a big stage: Radio Kraków reported in 2022 that there would be no New Year's Eve on the square. For New Year's Eve 2025, National Geographic Polska described Kraków as a city without one central event: a concert inspired by the music of ABBA at the Royal Chopin Hall, a show at Teatr Współczesny and private parties in venues. According to the same article, the city, like other big ones, is moving away from fireworks.

What is not known yet. There is no official programme for 31 December 2026 yet. Watch krakow.pl, the Kraków Festival Office and venues' offers on ticketing sites, which publish them well in advance.

An alternative near Kraków. In 2025 one of the unusual ideas listed was a party in the salt chambers of the Wieliczka Salt Mine, 125 metres underground. Whether it will be repeated in 2026 is not known, so check the mine's website.

Wrocław: market square, Christmas market and concerts in halls

What is certain. At the end of October the pik.wroclaw.pl website already lists events for 31 December 2026: a New Year's concert at the NFM at 18:00, a New Year's gala at Opera Wrocławska at 17:00, a ball at the NFM at 21:00, and parties at the GEM hotel and at Tarczyński Arena from 20:00. These are offers from specific institutions, not a city party on the square. The city programme for 2026 has not been announced.

How it was in 2025. The city did not organise a party on the Market Square. The Christmas market ran, with food and drink stalls open until 2:00 on 1 January, and people traditionally gathered by the tree at midnight. Wrocław has long said it does not stage fireworks displays, under the campaign "Wrocław nie strzela" (Wrocław does not shoot). Paid events included a disco on the ice rink (150 zł adults, 120 zł children), a silent disco at Stary Klasztor (119 zł) and a ball at Tarczyński Arena from 399 zł. Nearby, see Ostrów Tumski.

Gdańsk and Sopot: by the bay

How it was in 2025. Gdańsk put on two free city concerts, both outside the centre: on the pier in Brzeźno from 22:00 (Novika and Mr. Lex) and at Jar Wilanowski in Chełm from 22:50 (Natalia Kukulska). There were no fireworks: the countdown to midnight was played on Gdańsk's carillon. On Długi Targ there was no city event, but people traditionally gather there. Entry to several venues, including Montownia, Hard Rock Cafe and Stacja Food Hall in Wrzeszcz, was free. Extra trams ran to the concerts, including line 0.

What is not known yet. Gdańsk, Sopot and Gdynia have not announced plans for 2026. For Sopot there is no confirmed open-air event, but the pier in Sopot and the Neptune Fountain are good places for a walk. Private events are already on sale, for example a gala at the 4 Pory Roku Resort Sauna & Spa in Bąkowo near Gdańsk (31 December from 20:00, 390 zł in presale, then 430 zł).

Poznań: opera and a quieter night

No city open-air event has been announced for Poznań. The Teatr Wielki offers a New Year's Eve concert (the 2025/26 edition was on sale), and ticketing sites already show a listing for 31 December 2026 at 18:00. Check the theatre's website for the programme and prices. Before midnight it is worth fitting in a walk around the Old Market Square and a look at the town hall. Warsaw: a stage instead of a square

What is certain. The site pik.warszawa.pl already lists events for 31 December 2026. They include a New Year's gala at the Teatr Wielki and an extraordinary New Year's Eve concert at the Filharmonia Narodowa (both at 20:00), "Sylwester z Chopinem przy świecach" (New Year's Eve with Chopin by candlelight) at the Fryderyk hall at 17:00, and more than a dozen theatre performances, from 15:00 to 22:00.

How it was in 2025. The city gave up a large event with fireworks. Instead it offered cruises, bonfires, a torch parade and a mobile sauna by the Vistula on the Poniatówka beach. Remember that this was an announcement from a year ago, not a 2026 announcement. See the Vistula boulevards, Poniatowski Bridge and Castle Square.

The big TV party: Katowice

According to the headline of a TVP Info article, Telewizja Polska's New Year's Eve party for the 2026/27 season will take place in Katowice. No details, including performers, were given. If you want a big concert with a TV stage, wait with booking until the broadcasters' official announcements.

The quiet option: a mountain cabin

If you do not want a crowd, consider renting a cabin or guesthouse in Podhale, away from the centre of Zakopane. Many places organise their own New Year's Eve events, also as packages with accommodation, and zakopane.com recommends booking early. By day you can walk into the Chochołowska Valley. Be careful higher up: Kasprowy Wierch can be closed in strong wind, and the foehn wind (halny) can change the temperature by 10 to 15 degrees within hours, so check conditions just before you travel.

Spa and thermal baths: New Year's Eve in warm water

In 2025 National Geographic Polska listed an evening in mountain thermal baths among unusual ideas. For 2026 there are already packages: "Sylwester na Termach 2026" in Biały Dunajec near Zakopane runs from 31 December to 3 January and costs 1,499 zł (four days, three nights, full board, limited to 250 places). The programme includes Cypis as special guest, DJ Kamilos, a fire show, a sleigh ride with a bonfire and stand-up by Wojciech Pięta. The organiser is Party Travel. These venues may also have their own New Year's offers, so check with them directly: Termy BUKOVINA, Chochołowskie Termy and Termy Zakopiańskie. Check opening hours for 31 December and 1 January with the venue.

In practice

• Booking: book accommodation and private New Year's parties now, but keep plans built around an open-air concert flexible, because programmes are announced late.
• Clothing: in January Zakopane is usually between about minus 10 and plus 2 degrees, colder in the mountains. Warm boots, layers, a hat and gloves.
• Getting there: traffic in the centre of Zakopane can be restricted on New Year's Eve. Choose accommodation within walking distance or come by train.
• Fireworks: Zakopane has a year-round ban, and Wrocław, Kraków and Gdańsk did not run city displays in their latest editions.

Where is New Year's Eve cheapest?

Free city events and venues without an entry fee come out cheapest. In recent years the concerts on Równia Krupowa in Zakopane and the city concerts in Gdańsk were free, and in Gdańsk some venues charged no entry. Paid parties in 2025 cost from 119 zł in Wrocław (silent disco) to 399 zł and more (the ball at Tarczyński Arena), and in Bąkowo a 2026 ticket is 390 zł in presale and 430 zł later. Remember these are prices of specific events, not city averages.

Is Zakopane crowded on New Year's Eve?

Yes, expect crowds. About 10,000 people were expected at the 2025 concert, and in the TV years up to 2023 as many as 45,000 came. Organisers remind visitors that traffic in the centre can be restricted and car parks fill up quickly. It is best to walk or take the train.

Do I need to book accommodation and New Year's parties in advance?

Accommodation, yes, and as soon as possible, especially in Zakopane, where many hotels and guesthouses run their own New Year's Eve events with accommodation packages and booking early is recommended. No ticket was needed for the Zakopane concert (entry was free), but the programme is announced late. Before buying a ticket for a private ball, check whether the price includes dinner and drinks.

What will the weather be like and what should I wear?

A forecast for 31 December cannot be given in advance. In January Zakopane averages roughly minus 10 to plus 2 degrees, colder in the mountains, and the halny wind can change the temperature by 10 to 15 degrees within hours. Dress in layers. Check the current forecast a few days before you travel.

Are shops open on 1 January?

On New Year's Day the big chains such as Lidl and Biedronka are closed. Żabka and small neighbourhood shops may be open, but the owner decides. Petrol stations are open around the clock. On 31 December shops usually close earlier than normal, so shop in good time. Check opening hours near your accommodation before you go.

When will the 2026 New Year's Eve programmes be announced?

Usually in November and December. For Zakopane last year the description of the edition appeared on 8 November, and the names of performers were given later. City guides to events in Wrocław and Gdańsk appeared at the end of December. Watch the city website, the cultural centre's website and ticketing sites.
