Gubałówka above Zakopane

Gubałówka (1,123 m) is a ridge in the Gubałówka Range, directly above Zakopane, with one of the best-known viewpoints of the Tatras. The lower funicular station stands by Plac pod Gubałówką, next to the market. At the top, visitors find views of the Tatras, Zakopane and Podhale, plus an easy ridge walk.

Funicular and walking up

The Gubałówka funicular has operated since 1938. Its route is about 1,301 metres long with 300 metres of vertical rise, and the ride takes around 3.5 minutes. Tickets are sold at the station and online; operating hours and prices depend on the season and PKL’s current offer. You can also walk up on marked routes through Gładkie or Walowa Góra. Walking is free, but the terrain is mountainous, so wear suitable shoes.

Views and summit attractions

The ridge looks towards Giewont, Kasprowy Wierch, the Czerwone Wierchy, Świnica and part of the Belianske Tatras. Seasonal stalls, restaurants and family attractions operate along the busy summit area, including a gravity slide by the upper station. The slide is weather-dependent and has a separate price list. Check its availability, rules and child restrictions before buying a ticket.

Walk to Butorowy Wierch

A popular extension is the westward ridge walk towards Butorowy Wierch. It takes about 30–40 minutes, and a chairlift can take you down to Kościelisko. This is a convenient one-way option, but returning to Zakopane requires another walk or planned transport. Check both lifts’ current operation and the weather before travelling.
