Lubin Stronghold — Viewing Terraces

Grodzisko Lubin — Viewing Terraces is a viewpoint and archaeological site on Wolin Island, about 6 km south of Międzyzdroje. The timber terraces stand on the cliff above the Szczecin Lagoon, over 50 metres above sea level. Telescopes reveal the Land of 44 Islands, the Świna backwaters, Lake Wicko Wielkie and ships on the Szczecin–Świnoujście shipping lane.

The Wolinian stronghold and church remains

An early Slavic stronghold of the Wolinians stood here from the 9th to the 12th century. Archaeological research uncovered foundations of a Romanesque church, regarded as the oldest church in Pomerania, as well as remains of a medieval residential tower and cemetery. Information boards help visitors read the remains, many of which are not obvious at first glance.

Views, birds and shipping

The terraces are a good place to watch waterbirds and raptors, including white-tailed eagles, as well as traffic on the shipping lane. Visibility depends on the weather, so binoculars are useful and quieter times of day make observation easier. There is also a café on site, and the open setting works well at different times of day.

Tickets, hours and access

The site is open seasonally. In 2026 it operates from late March or early April to the end of October, with selected November weekends; hours and prices change during the season. Check the official website before travelling. There is parking, toilets and firm paths; bicycles and wheelchairs are welcome, and dogs are allowed. Address: Główna Street in Lubin, opposite the church. Nearby are Zielonka Hill, Turquoise Lake and Wapnica.
