Wax Figures Museum in Międzyzdroje

The Wax Figures Museum in Międzyzdroje (pronounced roughly "myen-dzi-ZDROY-eh") is a popular indoor attraction in one of Poland's best-known Baltic Sea resorts, on the island of Wolin near the German border. Set on the promenade a few steps from the pier, it displays more than a hundred life-size figures of actors, musicians, politicians and fairy-tale characters. It is one of the easiest things to do in Międzyzdroje when the weather turns or the kids need a break from the beach.

A small museum with a long history

The museum opened in 1998 with just 13 figures, mostly Polish film stars such as Krystyna Janda, Bogusław Linda and Daniel Olbrychski, along with Lech Wałęsa, Pope John Paul II and Marshal Józef Piłsudski. According to the operator, some of the celebrities took part in making their own likenesses, and the costumes were produced at the Grand Theatre in Warsaw. An early exhibition featured costumes and sets from the Polish historical epic "With Fire and Sword"; an original cannon used in the film is still on display.

What you will see

Today the collection numbers 110 life-size figures. It changes every year, so do not count on a particular face. Expect:

• Polish and international actors and singers,
• politicians and historical figures,
• painters and Guinness World Records holders,
• fairy-tale scenes for younger children.

The operator describes it as the largest year-round wax museum in Poland. Many Polish names will be new to foreign visitors, which can actually make the visit a fun crash course in Polish pop culture. Taking photos is free.

Is it worth visiting?

If you are already in Międzyzdroje, yes, especially on a rainy day. Plan about an hour; families with photo-happy kids often stay longer. Do not expect detailed English descriptions; the fun here is visual.

As of October 2026, according to the official website:

• Tickets: standard PLN 40, reduced PLN 35; organized groups with a guide PLN 35 (adults) and PLN 30 (children).
• Opening hours: July–August 10:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.; May, June and September 10:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.; October–April 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., closed on Mondays during that period.

How to get there

Międzyzdroje lies on the Polish Baltic coast in the far northwest of the country, between Świnoujście and the Wolin National Park; the nearest big city is Szczecin. Trains on the Szczecin–Świnoujście line stop at Międzyzdroje station, from where the museum is a short walk toward the sea. The museum has no parking of its own because it sits on the pedestrian promenade, so use a municipal car park. The same building houses the Eva cinema and a planetarium, and the pier and the "Promenade of the Stars," with handprints of Polish artists, are right next door.
