Międzyzdroje Oceanarium

The Międzyzdroje Oceanarium (roughly "myen-dzy-ZDRO-yeh") is an indoor public aquarium in the heart of Poland's best-known resort on Wolin Island, a short walk from the beach and the pier. Across some 3,000 m² you'll see sharks, moray eels, coral-reef fish and giant arapaima, plus a walk-under half tunnel and a touch pool. It's one of the few things to do in Międzyzdroje that works just as well on a rainy day or off-season.

Where it is and how to get there

Międzyzdroje sits on the Baltic coast in Poland's far northwest, right next to the German border. The nearest city is Szczecin, about 100 km (around 1.5 hours) to the south by road; Szczecin-Goleniów Airport is roughly an hour's drive away. Berlin is about 240 km (around 3 hours) away, and the German resorts on Usedom are just across the water via Świnoujście. Trains on the Szczecin–Świnoujście line stop in Międzyzdroje, and the oceanarium is a walk from the station along the main street toward the sea. The oceanarium does not advertise its own parking; in summer expect paid parking zones in the town center.

What you'll see inside

The exhibition is spread over three levels:

• Level -1: 10 tanks and the highlight, a 16-meter half tunnel with seating where rays and fish glide overhead.
• Level 0: 25 tanks with reef fish such as clownfish, boxfish and surgeonfish, a freshwater section with sturgeon, cichlids and arapaima, a paludarium with Japanese koi, and a touch pool where you can gently touch live fish under staff supervision. The café and gift shop are here too.
• Level +1: a children's play area, life-size shark models, motion-sensing interactive games and an information kiosk.

According to the operator, the tanks hold a combined 220 metric tons of water. This is an aquarium, not a marine park: there are no dolphins or seals, but the variety of fish is good for a regional attraction. The oceanarium opened in 2019 and works with fish scientists from the West Pomeranian University of Technology in Szczecin; it has publicized several births of freshwater stingrays in its tanks.

Is it worth visiting?

If you're traveling with children, or the weather has turned, yes. Plan on 60–90 minutes to see everything at an easy pace, longer if kids want time in the play area. Children under 2 get in free, and — unusually — the oceanarium welcomes well-behaved dogs (bring a leash for larger ones). If you're on a tight budget and the sun is out, the beach, the pier and Wolin National Park cost little or nothing, so weigh it against those.

The official website has English and German versions; we could not confirm whether the tank labels are translated, so a translation app may come in handy.

As of October 2026, the official price list shows (prices in Polish złoty, PLN):

• Adult: PLN 90
• Reduced: PLN 70 — children from age 2, seniors on pension, visitors with disabilities (and a carer where their document allows)
• Under 2: free
• Children's groups of 20+: PLN 60 per person, one free adult per 10 children

Nearby

From the oceanarium it's about 200 m to the Międzyzdroje Pier, at 395 meters the longest concrete pier in Poland, and the Promenade of the Stars with film stars' handprints. Wolin National Park has its headquarters in town: its natural history museum and the European bison enclosure are easy add-ons, and the cliffs around Kawcza Góra show the wilder side of the coast.
