Beach in Międzyzdroje

Międzyzdroje Beach (say "myen-dzih-ZDROH-yeh") is a broad stretch of pale sand on Wolin Island in northwestern Poland on the Baltic coast, and one of Poland's most popular beaches. What sets it apart is the setting: forested cliffs of Wolin National Park rise above the sea to the east, and a 395 m (1,296 ft) pier anchors the middle of the beach. Come for a classic summer seaside holiday or for quiet off-season walks and sunsets over the open sea.

Where it is

Międzyzdroje lies about 14 km (9 miles) northeast of Świnoujście, the port town on the border with Germany's Usedom island, and roughly 100 km by road north of Szczecin. The town borders Wolin National Park to the east and south, so the beach is backed by dunes that turn into steep moraine cliffs toward the east.

The beach and swimming areas

Two lifeguarded bathing areas, named East and West, stretch about 500 m on either side of the pier and are run by the municipality during the summer season. East of the pier is a small fishing harbor, and the farther you walk toward the cliffs, the quieter it usually gets. Check the national bathing-water service (sk.gis.gov.pl, in Polish) for season dates and water quality before you swim; the Baltic here is cool even in summer.

The pier

The first wooden pier was built in 1884; a longer one opened in 1906 and survived storms, war and ice until it was dismantled in 1989, leaving two white towers that still mark the entrance. Today's reinforced-concrete pier went up in stages from 1994, reaching its full 395 m in 2004. Its last 75 m sit lower so coastal excursion boats can dock, and short Baltic cruises depart from here in season.

Promenade of Stars and summer festival

Just behind the beach, the Promenade of Stars is Poland's answer to the Hollywood Walk of Fame: more than a hundred Polish actors and artists have left handprints in its slabs. New prints are added during the Festival of Stars, held since 1996, usually in early July, when the town is at its busiest.

Practical tips

• Access: the beach is free and open around the clock, all year.
• Best time: July and August for swimming; May, June and September for quieter walks; sunsets year-round.
• Families: the lifeguarded areas by the pier are the most convenient for children.
• Pier fee: as of October 2026 we found no official information on a pier admission charge, so check on site. Prices in town are in złoty (PLN).

Getting there and nearby

Międzyzdroje has a train stop on the Szczecin Dąbie–Świnoujście line, and city bus 10 links it with Świnoujście. Drivers can use the S3 expressway from Szczecin; the nearest airport is Szczecin-Goleniów. From Germany, the quickest route is via Usedom and Świnoujście.

Wolin National Park offers cliff-top trails and a European bison enclosure, Świnoujście has a long sandy beach and promenade, and the town of Wolin is known for its Viking-age heritage.
