Zielonka Hill in Lubin

On the edge of Lubin, one of the oldest villages on the island of Wolin, rises Zielonka Hill — an 81-metre-high viewpoint of Wolin National Park overlooking the wetlands of the back delta of the Świna river. It is a place for travellers who want to see the wild side of the Polish coast: a labyrinth of islets, sandbanks and open water.

The summit is flat, so the viewing terrace was arranged without major changes to the terrain: a wooden shelter with the name of the spot and a picnic table with benches stand here. The panorama takes in the backwaters of the Świna back delta, Wicko Wielkie lake and the waters of the Szczecin Lagoon. This terrain, regularly flooded after storm surges, creates bird habitats of international importance — along the Świna stretches a land of 44 islands, a refuge for waterfowl. In 1996 the wetlands were incorporated into the national park, and shortly before that the region won the European title of “Landscape of the Year 1993/1994”.

How to plan your visit

From the free car park, the viewpoint is about 300 metres away along a path with rustic steps — the blue trail runs here, leading on across Piaskowa Góra to Wapnica and the turquoise lake. The view is today partly obscured by overgrown trees and shrubs. Entry is free and the spot is accessible round the clock; the steps exclude prams. 0.7 km away lies the Lubin stronghold with viewing terraces — the two points combine easily in one trip.
