Viewpoints
Piaskowa Góra is a viewpoint of Wolin National Park rising to just 53 m above sea level, but it is not the height that does the work here — it is the perspective. The slopes drop steeply towards Turkusowe Lake, and the panorama takes in the buildings of Wapnica, the Szczecin Lagoon, Wicko Wielkie lake and the Trzciągowska Valley. The descent leads to a wooden shelter right by the lake, where you can rest by the water.
It is one of those places on Wolin where the landscape took on a colour impossible to mistake for any other part of the island: the water has a distinct turquoise hue, and from the viewpoint you can see the whole surface of the lake. The lake itself covers 6.74 ha and reaches a depth of 21.2 m; since the water surface lies at 2.6 m above sea level, it forms a cryptodepression — the bottom descends 18.6 m below sea level.
The easiest route is from Wapnica (5.5 km south of Międzyzdroje) or from Lubin — both trails follow the blue marks, and the path from Lubin passes Zielonka Hill, another viewpoint of the park. A free car park lies on Jodłowa Street, right below the viewpoint.
Within two kilometres await the viewing terraces of the Lubin stronghold (1.7 km) and, further on, the cliff viewpoints of Wolin National Park — Gosań and Kawcza Góra in Międzyzdroje. The site is open around the clock all year round and entry is free of charge; it is worth planning a morning visit before the trail gets crowded.
