The Bydgoszcz Christmas Market 2026 opens on Friday 20 November and runs until Monday 21 December 2026. Stalls will line the Old Market Square (Stary Rynek), Mostowa Street, the Old Town Bridge and plac Teatralny. The city promotes it as the only Christmas market in Poland held on a bridge: the wooden huts stand right above the Brda River, between the old town and plac Teatralny.
The 2026 dates and hours are official, and the city has published a list of about 30 selected stallholders. Below you'll find opening times, a map, tips for the opening weekend and ideas for what to see along the Brda. To compare other cities, see our guide to Christmas markets in Poland 2026.

The hours come from the 2026 market rules. The city notes that they may change depending on visitor numbers, especially in the evenings. If they do, we'll update the table.
Bydgoszcz opens on the same day as Toruń, Gdańsk, Wrocław and Katowice: Friday 20 November. Stallholders must be set up by noon and the first visitors can come at 1pm. As it's a Friday, the market stays open until 9pm that day. In previous years the big Christmas tree on the Old Market Square and the lights along Mostowa Street and the bridge were switched on at the start of the season, so the opening evening tends to be the most atmospheric and also the busiest moment. The city will announce the 2026 ceremony time separately, and we'll add it here.
If you prefer a quieter visit, come on Saturday 21 November in the early afternoon. Everything will be up and running, and the Friday night crowds will have gone.
The Bydgoszcz market forms a short but very scenic route. It starts on the Old Market Square, where craftspeople sell from festive huts, runs down Mostowa Street, crosses the Old Town Bridge over the Brda and ends on plac Teatralny on the other bank. The whole stretch is a few hundred metres long, so you can walk it in fifteen minutes, with views from the bridge of the granaries on the Brda and Mill Island. All three sections are on the map.
The city says the food offer will please fans of Kuyavian specialities, fish and traditional Polish cooking. The 2026 list of stallholders includes a pierogi kitchen, a stall with Kuyavian food, a Greek bistro and several caterers. Add honey from the stallholders' own apiaries and oscypek, the smoked sheep's cheese from the Tatra mountains. The city doesn't publish prices, so we don't quote any.
Craft huts will stand on the Old Market Square. The city lists handmade cuddly toys and Christmas wreaths, baubles, warm hats from Nepal and Zakopane, stainless steel jewellery, gift sets and cosmetics from a small manufacturer. The rules distinguish between handmade products and mass-produced goods, and the city chooses stallholders itself. The result is a small but fairly well-curated market.
The highlight is usually the tall Christmas tree on the Old Market Square, along with the evening lights on Mostowa Street and the bridge reflected in the Brda. For the best photo, stand on the Old Town Bridge facing the granaries, or on the square facing the town hall, after dark when the lights are on.
Bydgoszcz is a UNESCO Creative City of Music. In December, check what's on at Opera Nova and the Pomeranian Philharmonic: a Christmas concert is a good way to round off a day at the market. The opera house stands on the Brda a few minutes' walk from plac Teatralny.

Gift idea: the oscypek will be gone before your train arrives, but a Bydgoszcz map poster lasts for years. Put a heart on the Old Market Square or Mill Island and download the print file.
The market opens at 1pm every day, so there's no point coming in the morning. It stays open until 8pm from Sunday to Thursday and until 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays. Darkness falls around 3:30pm in December, so a visit between 3pm and 5pm gives you both daylight and the lights. Friday and Saturday evenings and the opening weekend are the busiest times. The last day, 21 December, is a Monday, so the weekend of 19–20 December is your final chance for weekend shopping.
From Bydgoszcz Główna station to the Old Market Square is about 2 km, roughly a 25-minute walk, or take a tram or bus into the centre. The Jakdojade app helps with routes. You can't drive onto the market site: the rules ban parking on the Old Market Square and stall deliveries only happen in the morning and after closing. Park outside the very centre and walk in.
The Old Market Square and Mostowa Street are cobbled, and the bridge gets tight at peak times, so weekdays are easier with a buggy. The rules forbid stallholders from playing music, which keeps the market calmer than in many bigger cities. The city says nothing about dogs, so if you bring one, pick a Monday to Thursday afternoon.
Toruń is about 50 km away and trains run often. Both markets open on 20 November, so you can spend the morning buying gingerbread in Toruń and the evening on the Brda. Details are in our Toruń Christmas Market 2026 guide. Just remember that Bydgoszcz closes on 21 December.
If you're staying for the weekend, use the morning before the 1pm opening to get out of the centre. Myślęcinek Forest Park, the market's organisational partner, is a large wooded park in the north of the city with a zoo and botanical garden, good for a winter walk with kids. History fans can head to Exploseum, a route through a former German explosives factory hidden in the forest. You'll be back in time for the stalls to open.
The most convenient areas are the Old Town and the centre around Gdańska Street, all within walking distance of the market. Hotels on the Brda and near Mill Island have views of the lights. Book early for the opening weekend and the last weekend before Christmas.
Arrive around noon and start with a walk on Mill Island: look into the Rother Mills and cross the footbridges over the canals. At 1pm, when the stalls open, head to the Old Market Square for crafts, then down Mostowa Street and over the bridge to plac Teatralny for something hot to eat. Once it's dark, stop in the middle of the Old Town Bridge: on one side the lit-up granaries, on the other the tightrope walker of "Man Crossing the River" hanging above the water. End the evening with a concert at Opera Nova or the Pomeranian Philharmonic.
The organiser is the city itself, with Myślęcinek Forest Park as organisational partner handling stallholder contracts and the huts. The city picks the stallholders, and the rules divide pitches into handmade crafts and natural products, mass-produced decorations, food products and catering. The list of selected traders is public, and if anyone drops out, a trader from the reserve list takes their place.
More ideas for a day on the Brda: things to do in Bydgoszcz.
On Friday 20 November 2026. On opening day the stalls trade from 1pm to 9pm.
On Monday 21 December 2026. Stalls are dismantled on the morning of 22 December, so there's no market between Christmas and New Year.
Sunday to Thursday until 8pm, Fridays and Saturdays until 9pm. It opens at 1pm every day.
No, the market on the Old Market Square, Mostowa Street and plac Teatralny is free.
The city doesn't publish stall prices. The rules have a separate category for food stalls selling alcohol, so look for mulled wine there.
There are no published rules on dogs. The site is open, but a narrow bridge on a weekend evening is no fun for a dog, so come on a weekday.
