Zamek na Skale Castle in Trzebieszowice

Above the Biała Lądecka river, in the valley linking Kłodzko with Lądek-Zdrój, stands Zamek na Skale — today a luxury hotel, once one of the greatest attractions of the Kłodzko land. Its core is a 15th-century knightly residence whose stone fragments survive in the cellars; in the 16th and 17th centuries the von Reichenbach family raised a Renaissance manor with an inner courtyard here.

The Wallises and the spa guests

The castle was the principal seat of the Wallis family, who expanded it on the river side. In the 18th and 19th centuries it drew spa guests from Lądek and travellers from all over Europe — the residence was then one of the calling cards of the County of Kłodzko. The last great remodelling of the early 20th century, carried out for the French Chamare-Harbuval family, added among others a richly carved wooden staircase modelled on Viennese baroque.

Interiors, tower and cave

A guided tour takes about an hour: the route leads through the defensive tower — the oldest, 14th-century part — the Baroque Hall of the 17th century, the Art Nouveau, Mirror and Neo-Rococo salons and the historic courtyard. On your own you can see the park and the cave hidden in the rock beneath the castle.
