Stara Morawa Reservoir

About 3 km from Stronie Śląskie, on the slope of Krzyżnik mountain in the Śnieżnik Massif, spreads the reservoir in Stara Morawa. Sitting at around 525 m above sea level, it is one of the highest artificial water bodies in Poland, and during the summer holidays a full-fledged, lifeguarded swimming area operates here.

A young reservoir in old mountains

The reservoir was built in 2007 with European funds — designed for recreation and water retention. It covers 5.5 ha. The south-western bank has a natural shape with direct access to the water; the others are lined with a concrete embankment. Its small size and mountain setting give the place an intimate character — the water frames the low summits of the surrounding hills.

Beach, pier, viewing tower

From the beach a pier with a viewing tower leads out over the water: climbing up is easy, and from the top you can see the water surface from above and the hills around. Next to it operate a water equipment rental, sports fields and a playground; there is a campsite and accommodation by the reservoir. The lifeguarded swimming area runs during the summer holidays — the season usually starts around 15 June, and entry is then paid, though inexpensive. Outside the season the grounds are free and open to walkers.

Practical information

Access is via Sportowa Street in Stara Morawa; there is a car park by the reservoir. Current prices and opening hours of the swimming area are published by Stronie Park Aktywności. It is worth combining a visit with the Bear Cave in Kletno (about 5 km), the Japanese Garden at the old lime kiln, and a hike to Śnieżnik.
