Czarna Góra

Czarna Góra (pronounced roughly "CHAR-nah GOO-rah", meaning "Black Mountain") is a 1,205 m (3,953 ft) forested peak in the Śnieżnik Massif, part of the Sudetes on Poland's border with Czechia. Its slopes hold one of Lower Silesia's best-known year-round mountain resorts, and a modern chairlift, the Luxtorpeda, carries visitors almost to the summit in a few minutes. It makes an easy half-day outing with wide views, or a starting point for longer hikes toward Śnieżnik, the highest peak of the region.

Where it is

Czarna Góra rises above the village of Sienna near Stronie Śląskie in the Kłodzko Land, the mountainous southern tip of Lower Silesia. Wrocław, the nearest big city and airport, is just under 120 km (75 miles) away, about two hours by car. The peak is visible from much of the region and is often mistaken for Śnieżnik itself. Its German name was Schwarzer Berg.

What happened to the observation tower?

Many older guides still mention a 14-meter wooden lookout tower on the summit. It was built around 2000–2001 alongside the resort, closed because of its poor condition and dismantled in 2021; only traces of the foundations remain. Today the views come from open ground near the upper lift station and the ski runs. The operator lists Śnieżnik, the Bardzkie, Złote and Bialskie mountains and, across the border, Czechia's Hrubý Jeseník range with its highest peak, Praděd. In exceptional visibility you may even make out the Wrocław area.

The Luxtorpeda chairlift and hiking routes

• Luxtorpeda: the lift starts in Sienna and, according to the operator, reaches the top in about 3 minutes. Bikes travel free with a single tourist ride in summer. As of October 2026 it runs on Saturdays and Sundays, 9:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.; schedules change by season and weather, so check the resort's notice before you go.
• On foot: the red Main Sudetes Trail (from the Śnieżnik hut to Lądek-Zdrój) and a green trail from Międzygórze to Stronie Śląskie both cross the summit. The shortest climb starts at Puchaczówka Pass, about 1.5 km north and roughly 350 m lower.
• To Śnieżnik: about 12.8 km one way from Czarna Góra – a full day there and back.

Who it suits and how long to allow

Allow 1.5–2 hours for a lift ride and a short summit walk; this is a good option for families with kids. In the warmer months the resort also runs an alpine coaster (Czarna Żmija), a rope park and a downhill bike park, mostly on weekends. The summit is windy, so bring a jacket even in summer, and take care on rocky paths after rain.

Tickets, parking and getting there

• By car from Wrocław: road 8 to Kłodzko, then road 33 toward Boboszów and the exit for Lądek-Zdrój or Idzików. The main car park has about 1,400 spaces and costs PLN 20 per day.
• By bus: local services run from Stronie Śląskie to Sienna (for example at 8:00 a.m. and 3:50 p.m.), plus a ski bus in winter.

Is it worth visiting? Things to do nearby

Yes, especially combined with nearby sights: the Bear Cave (Jaskinia Niedźwiedzia) and the Museum of the Earth in Kletno, the spa town of Lądek-Zdrój, and Międzygórze with its waterfall. Websites and signage at the resort are mainly in Polish, but the lift and parking are easy to navigate.
