Mill Homestead Open-Air Museum in Uniejów

At ul. Arcybiskupa Jakuba Świnka, not far from the thermal baths and the castle in Uniejów, stands the Mill Homestead — an open-air museum founded in 2012 and devoted to the old milling craft. Two wooden post windmills, an inn in a 19th-century cottage and a timber manor house form a complex where the history of flour meets agritourism.

Two windmills

The first post mill, moved from Chorzepin, serves as accommodation — you can sleep under the great mill wheel, with modern room standards. The second, from Zbylczyce, operates as a living museum of milling with original equipment still in use. In the past, a dozen or so windmills worked in Uniejów itself: one ground flour, another groats, yet another millet meal.

A living homestead

Sheep, horses and pigeons live on the homestead, and the inn — a cottage moved from Skotniki, with a characteristically low entrance — serves bread with lard, home-style dinners and kvass. Handmade products are also made on site: stone-ground flour and butter. The property offers horse riding and carriage rides.

Practical information

The homestead is open daily from 13:00 to 20:00, with free parking. Guests staying overnight in the windmill or the manor house receive tickets to the thermal pools. The museum lies about 0.8 km from the Termy Uniejów baths and about 1.1 km from the castle, by road 72 linking Aleksandrów Łódzki with Turek.
