Skansen in Wolin (town)

The Wolin–Jomsborg–Vineta Centre of Slavs and Vikings is an archaeological open-air museum on Ostrów Island near Recław. Its buildings reconstruct an early medieval settlement connected with Wolin, drawing on archaeological research. Visitors can enter the houses, see replicas of furniture, tools and everyday objects, and learn how people lived in a Baltic settlement.

What to see

The site includes residential houses and craft workshops. On selected dates, demonstrations and hands-on activities introduce historical techniques, clothing, weapons and everyday life in the early Middle Ages. The museum is interactive: visitors can try selected costumes and pieces of equipment, while the archery station is available with adult supervision.

Planning your visit

The address is Recław 37, 72-510 Wolin; the entrance road comes from Recław rather than from the town centre. Official seasonal hours are April–June 10:00–16:00, July–August 10:00–18:00 and September–October 10:00–16:00. The last tickets are sold 30 minutes before closing. Prices and admission arrangements may differ during the Viking Festival and workshops, so check the operator’s website before travelling.

Practical information

The centre suits families, history enthusiasts and anyone who prefers learning through experience. The site has steep embankments, wooden steps, thresholds and low doorways, and paths can be slippery after rain. Visitor parking is free. Children and teenagers should be accompanied by adults, and dogs are allowed only on a lead.
