Sieradz Ethnographic Park

At the foot of the Castle Hill in Sieradz, between the Żeglina stream and the Paradzianka reservoir, lies an open-air museum devoted to the Sieradz countryside. The Sieradz Ethnographic Park at Grodzka 1 is a branch of the District Museum in Sieradz, created in the 1970s on the initiative of Zofia Neymanowa, the museum's director at the time.

Cottages, a barn and an 1810 granary

The museum's first building was a reconstruction of the 19th-century Weaver's House from Zgierz. Later came the homestead of folk sculptor Szczepan Mucha from the village of Szale — in the house, workshop and garden you will see a gallery of his works, including devils peeking at visitors from under old apple trees. The heart of the exhibition is an open homestead from the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries: a 19th-century cottage brought from Sieradz, a barn from Ruda from the early 20th century, a cowshed with a cart shed from Wiertelaki, and a wooden granary, the so-called kumora, built around 1810 in Brąszewice-Zabrodzie. The cottages are furnished with original fittings; there is also a wayside shrine, a bread oven, a shelter with farm tools and a flower garden.

Practical information

The park operates from May to November: Tuesday to Friday 10:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m., weekends 10:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m., closed on Mondays. Tickets cost PLN 6 (regular) and PLN 4 (reduced), and every Tuesday is free of charge. The site honours the Large Family Card, is accessible for pushchairs, and parking is free. After your visit, climb the nearby Castle Hill — the centre of Sieradz is close by.
