Cycle Path Along the Former Narrow-Gauge Railway in the Barycz Valley

The cycle path along the former narrow-gauge railway is a 20.3-kilometre, 2-metre-wide asphalt trail in the Barycz Valley, running from Sułów Milicki through Pracze and Milicz to Grabownica by the Milicz Ponds. It was laid on the embankment of the dismantled Żmigrodzko-Milicka County Railway.

The line was opened at the end of the nineteenth century on the Żmigród – Milicz section, ran at about 25 km/h, and was later extended to Sulmierzyce. After the Second World War passenger traffic gradually shifted to faster buses, and the last service to Milicz ran in 1991. The former stops now serve as rest points for cyclists.

Stops and attractions along the route

On the section Sułów Milicki – Pracze – near Postolina – Kaszowo – Milicz Zamek – Milicz Wąskotorowy – near Ruda Milicka – Grabownica you will find shelters, tables, bike racks and displays of railway rolling stock. In Milicz there is a large open-air aquarium with fish farmed in the Barycz Valley: the famous Milicz carp as well as pike, crucian carp, catfish, perch, zander, silver carp and sturgeon.

In practice

The terrain is flat, so the trail works well for families. It is open all year round, around the clock, and access is free. Milicz railway station makes access easy; a car park awaits in Sułów.
