In the village of Nowy Zamek in the Milicz municipality, on the shores of the Milicz Ponds, operates Hubertówka — a restaurant with guest rooms specialising in game and fish cuisine. It is a typical address for the Barycz Valley, a region where carp and game have been served for centuries. The restaurant publishes current opening hours online; check the schedule and parking options before travelling.
The menu is dominated by produce from the local ponds and forests: fish soup with plenty of Milicz carp meat, duck with stuffing, game dishes. Vegetarian and vegan options are also prepared, and ingredients come from local producers.
Hubertówka lies in the middle of a complex of more than 285 ponds covering about 77 km², established by Cistercian monks from the 13th century onwards. It is the largest carp farming centre in Poland and one of the largest in Europe, and since 1963 also a waterbird reserve — 276 bird species have been recorded here, including the white-tailed eagle and the lesser spotted eagle.
The nearest viewpoint is the tower in Grabownica with a panorama of the ponds. A little further away await Milicz with its palace (7.2 km), the Christmas Ornament Museum and the Colourful Carp Trail.
