The Museum of Architecture in Wrocław is the only museum of its kind in Poland, housed in the late-Gothic buildings of a former Bernardine (Franciscan) monastery a few minutes from the Market Square. The setting alone is worth the visit: a soaring brick church, vaulted cloisters and a quiet garden courtyard. Inside you'll find salvaged details from Wrocław's townhouses, models of the historic city, a Romanesque tympanum and the oldest surviving stained-glass panel in Poland.
The museum opened in 1965 in the rebuilt monastery and church and became independent in 1971. The complex, badly damaged in World War II, was reconstructed between 1956 and 1974 under architect Edmund Małachowicz in what is considered a pioneering restoration. The museum is a founding member of the International Confederation of Architectural Museums (ICAM).
Start with the building itself. The brick cloisters with their stone-ribbed vaults now serve as a gallery of carved architectural fragments, and the tall, light-filled chancel of the former church has been turned into an exhibition hall. In summer, step into the cloister garden, where roses bloom against Gothic windows – one of the quietest spots in central Wrocław.
The collection numbers some 25,000 objects, about 500 of them on display at any time:
Temporary exhibitions change regularly; from October 15, 2026 to January 21, 2027 the museum shows "Mycelium. Forms from the Kingdom of Fungi."
