Things to do in Legnica
Legnica lies in central Lower Silesia on the Kaczawa and Czarna Woda rivers and is the largest town of the Legnica-Głogów Copper Belt. For centuries it was the capital of a Piast duchy, and in 1241 a battle against the Mongols was fought near the town. Start at the Piast Castle, then walk to the Market Square with the Old Town Hall and the Herring Houses. Visit the Cathedral of St Peter and St Paul and St Mary's Church, and in St John's Church see the Piast Mausoleum, commemorating the last members of the dynasty in Silesia. The Copper Museum explains copper mining and the town's past, and the large City Park is ideal for a break. One day is enough. Legnica is on the A4 motorway, about 70 kilometres from Wrocław, and the train from Wrocław takes under an hour. May to September is best.
