Bolesławiec on the Bóbr river is a town of ceramics – the Ceramics Museum is the best place to discover its history and wares. The Old Town centres on the market square with its town hall and townhouses; a few steps away stands the Basilica of the Assumption with a 55-metre tower and Baroque interior. On the western edge of town a stone railway viaduct from 1846, 489 metres long, spans the valley. By the old walls stands Field Marshal Kutuzov's obelisk, designed by Schinkel. Bolesławiec makes a good day trip for lovers of crafts, architecture and engineering heritage.
