Białka Tatrzańska, Lesser Poland
Kotelnica Białczańska (ko-teh-LNEE-tsah byaw-CHAHN-skah) in Białka Tatrzańska is one of Poland's best-known ski resorts, and its operator bills it as the largest in the country. Set on gentle hills facing the High Tatras, it offers wide, groomed, floodlit runs, fast six-seat chairlifts and a shared lift pass with neighboring areas, which makes it a popular first stop for anyone wondering where to ski in Poland, especially families and intermediate skiers.
Białka Tatrzańska (BYAW-kah tah-TSHAN-skah) is a village in southern Poland's Lesser Poland (Małopolska) region, about 20 km from Zakopane, the country's best-known mountain town. Kraków, with the nearest major international airport, is roughly a two-hour drive away; Zakopane itself is about 105 km from Kraków. The village sits on national road 49, which runs from Nowy Targ toward the Slovak border at Jurgów. The resort covers the east-facing slopes of Kotelnica (918 m) and the slopes of Jankulakowski Wierch (934 m), with roughly 230 m of vertical.
Kotelnica itself has about 14 km of pistes, and the wider Kotelnica–Kaniówka–Bania area close to 20 km (skiresort.com lists 21.3 km and 21 lifts for the whole area). Highlights include:
Every run is groomed, covered by snowmaking and lit, so evening skiing is part of the deal. Three red runs hold FIS homologation and host races. The longest run is about 1.9 km.
The operating company was set up on July 1, 2000 by local entrepreneurs, who leased land from dozens of owners; the first skiers came on December 8, 2001. New chairlifts followed through the 2000s and 2010s. Since 2018/19 Kotelnica has been part of Tatry Super Ski, a joint lift pass covering 19 resorts in Poland and Slovakia, and it has won World Ski Awards several times.
Three separate operators share the hills above the village: Kotelnica, the small family area of Kaniówka and Bania next to a hotel and thermal baths. Lifts are numbered as one system, and the Tatry Super Ski pass works on all of them, so you can move between them on one ticket.
Yes, if you want easy-to-moderate skiing with modern lifts and a reliable snowmaking system. Experts may find the terrain short, but intermediates, beginners and kids are well served:
Weekends and Polish school winter holidays get busy; weekdays are calmer. Expect signs and websites mainly in Polish, with an English version of the resort's site.
Prices and the opening date for 2026/27 have not been published yet. For reference only, in 2025/26 a one-day Tatry Super Ski pass cost 170 PLN (reduced 160 PLN), and late-season promo passes were 135 PLN for 6 hours and 110 PLN for 4 hours. Check the official site before you go; winter hours depend on snow and weather.
From Kraków take the S7/DK47 "Zakopianka" toward Nowy Targ, then road 49 to Białka Tatrzańska. The lower station of Kotelnica Express is next to a large car park on ul. Środkowa. Regional minibuses link Białka with Nowy Targ and Zakopane.
Outside winter there is a scenic chairlift and the Gravity Park bike area (the 2026 bike season is already over). Next door is the Terma Bania thermal-bath complex (run by a different company), and the village has an 18th-century wooden church of Saints Simon and Jude.
