Holy Trinity and St. Anthony Abbot Wooden Church in Łopuszna

In Łopuszna in the Podhale region, a few dozen metres from the Tetmajer manor house, stands the wooden church of the Holy Trinity and St. Anthony Abbot. The temple was consecrated in 1504, and its architecture belongs to the Gothic — one of the oldest and most valuable monuments of the region, included in the Wooden Architecture Trail of Małopolska.

A Gothic triptych older than the church

The most precious element of the fittings is the Gothic triptych in the main altar from around 1460 — older than the present church itself. Around it gather further objects: a bell from about 1540, the painting “Way to Calvary” from about 1740, and on the choir parapet remains of polychrome from around 1500. The ornamental ceiling polychromes date from 1935, so the interior reads today as a cross-section of five centuries of sacral art.

Podhale on the way to the Gorce

Łopuszna is famous not only for its church — the Tetmajer manor house operates in the village, and the church also lies on the Papal Trail in the Gorce mountains. The village is surrounded by meadows below Gorce, and a few kilometres away, in Dębno Podhalańskie, stands the most famous wooden church of Podhale.

The church stands at Gorczańska 1; for visiting details and hours, best contact the parish (contact on the diocesan website). The drive from Nowy Targ takes about 20 minutes, from Kraków about 1.5 hours. Plan your trip combining Łopuszna with Dębno Podhalańskie (6 km), Niedzica castle (15 km) or the Dunajec rafting (19 km) — all fit into a one-day route.
