Maciejowa in the Gorce Mountains

Maciejowa (837 m above sea level) is a peak in the Gorce Mountains, lying on the long ridge that runs from Turbacz all the way to Rabka-Zdrój — and one of the most easily accessible mountain walks in this part of the Beskids. The ridge and the northern slopes are cut by a clearing with wide views over Babia Góra, the Pasmo Policy range and the Maków Beskids.

Trails

The most popular ascent follows the red Main Beskid Trail from Rabka-Zdrój: about 1.5 hours of easy walking on a route suitable even for families with children. Faster and steeper is the black path from Rabka Słone, which takes around 40 minutes. From the ridge you can continue to Stare Wierchy and Turbacz, the highest peak of the Gorce. In winter the northern slopes host ski lifts, one of which reaches almost to the summit.

The mountain hut below the summit

About a kilometre from the summit, on the Przysłop clearing (approx. 850 m), stands the PTTK Bacówka na Maciejowej hut, opened in autumn 1977. It has 25 beds, a dining room and a terrace with views of the Beskid Wyspowy range, and inside many carved elements of furnishing.

In practice

The summit lies outside the boundaries of the Gorce National Park, within the town of Rabka-Zdrój. Plan 3–4 hours for a loop with the climb and a meal at the hut; on fine weekends the terrace gets busy.
