Bania Ski Resort in Białka Tatrzańska

The slope at Bania in Białka Tatrzańska has its own chapter in Polish skiing history: Poland's first slope with artificial snowmaking opened here in 1994. Today the resort runs under the name Bania Ski & Fun – a short four-seater chairlift, a T-bar and conveyor belts for beginners right next to the Bania hotel and thermal baths. It is mainly for families and learners, and the Tatry Super Ski pass lets you move on to the longer runs of neighbouring Kotelnica during the day.

History: from rope tow to chairlift

The first lift at Bania – a roughly 200-metre rope tow – went up in the mid-1960s. It served workers from one of the coal mines, who took it down every summer. The lifts in their present form were built in the 1990s by Józef Dziubasik. The four-seater chairlift has run since the 2006/2007 season, and on 16 June 2011 a thermal pool complex, today the Bania Thermal Baths, opened next door.

Lifts and slopes

The resort lies on the eastern slope of the Kotelnica–Wysoki Wierch ridge. It has:

• a four-seater Doppelmayr chairlift – about 320 m long, 60 m vertical, 2,000 people an hour,
• a T-bar about 200 m long,
• short platter lifts, one of them serving a snow-tubing run.

The Tatry Super Ski website also lists two conveyor belts for the youngest skiers. The slopes have snowmaking and floodlighting, and the total lift capacity at Bania is 3,900 people an hour. The run by the thermal baths links directly with Kotelnica, where longer and harder runs await.

Interesting facts

Three neighbouring resorts share the slopes above Białka: Kotelnica Białczańska, Kaniówka and Bania. They have separate operators but a common lift numbering – at Bania it starts at number 4, as 1–3 belong to Kotelnica. By the slope, the Active Therapy school teaches people with disabilities, including wheelchair users, with mono-ski and dual-ski equipment. Hotel guests step onto the slope straight from the building and pay for lifts with a wristwatch that also serves as their room key.

Tripto tip

Bania is at ul. Środkowa 181 in Białka Tatrzańska (Bukowina Tatrzańska municipality). By the slope you will find the Stok ski school, the Waluś rental and service shop and the Karczma Bania restaurant with views of the slope and the Tatras. According to Tatry Super Ski the resort is usually open from 8:30 to 21:50, with shorter hours outside the peak season – check hours and prices for 2026/2027 before you go. Tatry Super Ski passes (19 resorts) are sold on site.

Half a day is enough for a lesson with children; after skiing, the pools of the Bania Thermal Baths in the same complex are the obvious next stop. Current conditions on the Kotelnica slopes are published on bialkatatrzanska.pl.
