Parish Church in Rzeszów

The Parish Church in Rzeszów, dedicated to St Adalbert and St Stanislaus, stands on Farny Square at the edge of the historic centre. It is one of the city’s oldest parishes, where a Gothic chancel meets a Baroque nave and later side aisles. The visit makes a useful addition to a walk around the market square and the underground tourist route.

From a medieval parish to a Baroque form

The parish existed before 1363. After the fire of 1621, the main nave was rebuilt in its present form under Mikołaj Spytek Ligęza, and both side aisles were added in 1754. These changes left the church with a clear contrast between the Gothic chancel and the Baroque body.

High altar, pulpit and tower

The chancel contains a high altar from 1730 with a painting of the Crucifixion of Christ. Also notice the richly carved Rococo pulpit and the wooden, gilded side altars. Beside the church rises a brick bell tower from the beginning of the 17th century, about 30.5 metres high and square in plan.

Practical information

The church is at 5 Farny Square, about 200 metres from the market and the Rzeszów Underground Tourist Route. It is an active church, so plan sightseeing outside services. The diocesan information lists Masses at 06:30, 07:00, 07:30, 08:30 and 18:00 on weekdays, and at 06:30, 08:00, 09:30, 11:00, 12:15, 18:00 and 19:30 on Sundays and holidays; check the current schedule before visiting. Allow 30–45 minutes.
