Rzeszów Christmas Market 2026: dates, opening hours, tips

Rzeszów's Christmas Town (Świąteczne Miasteczko), the city's Christmas market on the Market Square, has confirmed dates: 4 December 2026 to 6 January 2027, as announced by the organiser, Estrada Rzeszowska. Rzeszów starts later than most Polish cities but keeps the festive mood going until Epiphany, with the market open between Christmas and New Year and a New Year's Eve party on the square.

The 2026 hours and programme haven't been published yet, so this guide combines what's confirmed with what the 2025/26 season looked like: opening hours and holiday exceptions, attractions for children, the city's Christmas Eve supper, transport tips and the sights around the square. What's on the square

Rzeszów's Market Square is small and compact, with the town hall and its ornate 19th-century façade in the middle and the Kościuszko monument next to it, so the Christmas Town feels intimate rather than overwhelming. In its 2026 event description the organiser lists workshops, concerts, stage shows, fairground rides and festive installations, and also mentions an ice rink among the regular features. The detailed line-up for this season will come with the programme.

Stalls and food

The wooden huts sell handicrafts, Christmas decorations and regional produce. In 2025 two food points ran under the HoHo name – HoHo Bar and HoHo Bistro – serving mulled wine and sweets. For a taste of the Podkarpacie region, look for proziaki (soda flatbreads) and for honey and cheese from local producers. No prices have been published.

Ferris wheel, carousels and Santa's hut

Last season the square had a 10-metre Ferris wheel, a vintage carousel for children and a small merry-go-round. The children's favourite was Santa's hut, open from 7 to 28 December: Monday to Saturday 12:00–20:00 and Sunday 11:00–21:00, with a half-hour lunch break at 15:30 and closed over Christmas. It also hosted storytelling sessions for little ones.

Tree and lights all over the centre

In 2025 the tree on the square was more than 16 metres tall, with 1,200 baubles and 15,000 LED lights. The lights spread well beyond the square: a second nativity scene stood on Kościuszki Street, 3 Maja Street had reindeer to pose with and a festive gate, and 3D decorations appeared on Górski Square and by the multimedia fountain on Lubomirskich Avenue. The illuminations stayed up until the end of January, so an evening walk is worthwhile even after the market closes.

The 2025/26 programme: what to expect

The 2026 programme will be published closer to opening, but last season shows how Rzeszów celebrates:

• Santa Weekend to open: the lights switched on at 17:00, the Rzeszów Santa Run and a parade with elves, stilt-walkers, a brass band and majorettes marching from the multimedia fountain to the square.
• Moto-Santas – bikers in Santa hats riding onto the square – and a contest for the longest paper chain in the cinema of the Rzeszów Cellars.
• The city's Christmas Eve supper (18 December in 2025): carols by the Rzeszów University of Technology choir, the sharing of the Christmas wafer with Catholic and Orthodox clergy, the Bethlehem Peace Light brought by scouts, and traditional Christmas Eve dishes served under the town hall arcades.
• Between Christmas and New Year: carol singing, gingerbread decorating workshops in the Rzeszów Cellars and a dance with a folk band.
• New Year's Eve on the square with a DJ (a kids' set first, then until 1 am).
• A retro weekend in early January with a classic car meet and a vintage city bus.

Whether all of this returns in 2026 isn't known yet, so treat the list as a feel for the event rather than a confirmed programme.

Practical tips: timing, transport, parking

When to go

If the hours stay as in 2025, the market opens at 13:00 on weekdays and 11:00 on Sundays. Late afternoon on a weekday is best: it's getting dark and the square isn't crowded yet. Weekends with stage events are the busiest. Rzeszów's big plus is that the market runs after Christmas: in 2025 stalls were open 11:00–21:00 on 26 December and 1 January, and even on Christmas Day the wheel, the carousel and a few food points were running. It was closed on Christmas Eve.

An afternoon walk

Start at 14:00 underground: the Rzeszów Underground Route leads through old merchants' cellars for almost 400 metres beneath the square. Back on the surface, browse the market, then after dark walk along 3 Maja Street to the Bernardine basilica and back through the lit-up streets. With kids, start at the Museum of Bedtime Cartoons – classic Polish TV puppets make a good warm-up before meeting Santa.

By train and bus

Rzeszów Główny station is about 15 minutes' walk from the square. Trains from Kraków usually take around two hours, so Rzeszów works as a day trip or a stop on the way to the Bieszczady mountains. City bus times are in the Jakdojade app.

By car

Much of the centre around the square is pedestrianised, and spaces in the paid parking zone are scarce on December evenings. The easiest option is a shopping-centre car park in the city centre and a short walk.

With kids, dogs and accessibility

The Christmas Town is very family-oriented: wheel, carousels, Santa's hut and a photo wall all sit on one square. The square is cobbled, so with a buggy the edges along the houses are smoother. We found no rules on dogs; the narrow lanes between huts get tight on weekend evenings, so choose a quieter day with a dog.

Where to stay

Hotels and apartments in the Old Town and along 3 Maja Street are closest to the square. Rzeszów is far less busy in December than Kraków, so you'll usually find a reasonably priced room even on pre-Christmas weekends.
