Bzów Quarry in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland

The disused Jurassic limestone quarry at Bzów near Zawiercie has white rock walls, ammonite traces and a location close to Rzędowa Rock and Ogrodzieniec Castle.

Limestone and ammonite traces

The quarry is a remnant of the former Wiek Cement Plant. Its pale walls and terraces reveal the structure of Jurassic limestone, and ammonite traces can be found in the rock. Do not treat the workings as a prepared geotourism trail: before entering any area, check that access is allowed and safe.

Rzędowa Rock and the surroundings

Nearby Rzędowa Rock offers views towards Ogrodzieniec Castle and Birów Hill Fort. The combination of the isolated limestone outcrop, pale quarry walls and Upland scenery works well for a short photographic stop.

In practice

Rzędowa Rock can be reached via Zwierzyniecka Street or Biały Kamień; there is a parking place and a shelter nearby. The quarry has no regular tourist infrastructure. Do not walk onto steep ledges or near edges, and do not collect fossils without checking that it is permitted.
