Physics Experience Park in Ogrodzieniec

At the foot of the Ogrodzieniec Castle ruins in Podzamcze, in the heart of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, the Physics Experience Park opened in 2014. Several dozen devices let you test the laws of physics with your own body — from the large rotating platform and coupled swings to the Mach disc, Benham disc, acoustic telegraph, periscope and bridge resonance.

This is learning through play at its best: the stations require no knowledge, only movement, and each one explains a single mechanism — inertia, resonance or optical illusions. Children treat the park as a playground, adults discover that high-school physics could have looked completely different, and parents finally get the chance to explain why a swing works better with a second person on board.

The castle overhead

The park is one of the elements of the Ogrodzieniec Park, laid out around the 14th- and 15th-century stronghold raised by the Włodek family, later known as the Sulimczyks. The castle, part of the Eagles' Nests system, towers over the whole site and looks equally fine from the perspective of a swing. Next door operate an amusement park for the youngest, a toboggan run, a miniature park and the House of Legends and Fears — there is enough to fill an entire day, so it is worth arriving in Podzamcze in the morning.

Practical information

The park operates seasonally, depending on the month between 9:00–16:00 or 9:00–20:00. A standard ticket costs PLN 14, a reduced one PLN 12, a family ticket PLN 45. The entrance is at Zamkowa street in Podzamcze, about 2 km east of Ogrodzieniec; the ticket office by the castle is closest.
