House of Legends and Fears near Ogrodzieniec Castle

The Kraków-Częstochowa Upland has its share of spooky tales – of a black dog, of a white lady and of a water demon. In Podzamcze, right next to the ruins of Ogrodzieniec Castle, they have been gathered under one roof. The Castle of Legends and Fears (the operator also calls it the House of Legends and Fears) is an indoor horror trail where you meet 13 frightening figures depicting events that – according to many chilling stories – really happened.

What awaits you

This is not a museum or a tour of the ruins but a staged walk through dark rooms. Along the way you may come face to face with a huge black dog, glimpse the silhouette of a white lady, meet a drowned water spirit or find yourself surrounded by giant bats. The attraction was built as part of the "Park of Legends and Fears of the Jura" project, co-financed by the EU through the Silesian Regional Operational Programme 2007–2013; the project was worth more than PLN 1.5 million.

The park below the castle

The House of Legends and Fears is one of five attractions in the Park Ogrodzieniec complex. Next to it are:

• Miniature Park – the Trail of the Eagles' Nests castles from Kraków to Częstochowa at a scale of 1:25,
• Physics Experiments Park with 47 devices demonstrating basic laws of physics,
• Amusement Park for younger children,
• a toboggan run.

The ruins of Ogrodzieniec Castle are not one of these five attractions – they are a separate destination.

Tickets

According to the operator's price list, a standard ticket costs PLN 14, reduced (young people up to 25 and people with disabilities) PLN 10, group (more than 15 people) PLN 10, and a ticket for a person with a disability PLN 7. Children under 4 go free. Prices may change, so it is worth confirming before you go.

Park opening hours

• April–June: Mon–Fri 10:00–18:00, weekends and holidays 10:00–20:00.
• July–August: daily 10:00–20:00.
• September–October: Mon–Fri 10:00–16:00, weekends 10:00–18:00; on October weekdays the park opens for organised groups only.
• November: closed on weekdays, weekends 11:00–16:00.

In bad weather the park may close or change its hours – the operator asks visitors to call ahead (+48 606 669 742).

Tripto tip

• Children under 12 may only enter with an adult. With little ones, think about whether a horror walk is right for them – the figures are meant to scare.
• Time: if you combine the horror trail with the Miniature Park and the castle ruins, plan half a day.
• On a rainy day it is a good alternative to exploring the open-air ruins.
