Skała 502 Rock in Jerzmanowice

Grodzisko, also known as Skała 502, Wzgórze 502 or Wyjrzoł, is a limestone outcrop in Jerzmanowice on the Olkusz Upland. Recent measurements give it an elevation of 512.8 metres, although the name recalls older surveys. From the summit, views open over the Będkowska Valley and nearby outcrops; in clear weather you can see the Beskids and Tatras.

A limestone outcrop and local high point

Skała 502 is a plateau rock formation in Jurassic limestone. The Jerzmanowice-Przeginia municipality describes it as the highest point of the Olkusz Upland and the second-highest summit of the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland. A concrete pillar on the summit recalls a former triangulation tower. The name Grodzisko refers to the hill and local usage, not to a surviving fortress.

Views over the Będkowska Valley

The open plateau looks towards the valley, about 100 metres below, and the chain of Jerzmanowice outcrops. It is a good place for a short walk and landscape photography, especially in clear air. The Będkowska Valley, Nietoperzowa Cave and other Jurassic rocks are nearby, so the outcrop can be part of a longer route.

Approach and safety

The hill lies about 1 km south of national road 94, around Jurajska and Pod Grodziskiem streets. It has no ticket office or permanent visitor services, so check the map and approach conditions before setting out. Rocky sections may be slippery after rain. Climbing routes exist; check access rules and anchors before climbing, and keep clear of the walls without suitable experience.
