Sucha Polana (Sucha Pass)

Between Łysina and Kamiennik Południowy, on the boundary of the Beskid Wyspowy and Beskid Makowski ranges, lies the broad saddle of Przełęcz Sucha (710 m above sea level). Sucha Polana has long served shepherds and hikers, and today it is one of the most visited spots in the Lubomir and Łysina Range south of Dobczyce.

Shelter, campfire and crocuses

The meadow has a hikers' shelter, a campsite with space for campfires and an educational corner with information boards. In spring the flat floor of the pass disappears under blooming crocuses that draw photographers and walkers. The eastern slopes drain into the Lipnik stream; the clearing belongs to the village of Lipnik in the municipality of Wiśniowa, Myślenice county.

From sheepfold to partisan reviews

Formerly called Równica, the meadow once had a sheepfold used by shepherds tending flocks from the Konina area in the Gorce Mountains. After the Second World War there was a forester's lodge with a campsite, and the planned mountain hut was eventually built on Kudłacze instead. During the war the meadow saw reviews of partisan units: on 3 September 1944 a solemn field mass was held here, at which the banner of the Myślenice district of the Home Army was blessed. The boulder with a plaque and cross unveiled in 2002 commemorates the event; its small shrine was brought from the summit of Lubomir.

Trails to the pass

Two marked routes cross Sucha Polana: the yellow trail from Dobczyce via Kamiennik Południowy towards Luboń, and the green trail from Myślenice through Zarabie, Góra Chełm and Kamiennik to the Kudłacze hut. Lubomir itself is also within easy reach, and the shrine by the boulder came from its summit.
