Pogoria IV (Kuźnica Warężyńska) Reservoir

Kuźnica Warężyńska — colloquially Pogoria IV — is the largest reservoir of the Pogoria complex: 560 hectares of water stretching 8 km long and up to 3 km wide. It was created in 2005 on the site of a disused sand mine of the same name, mainly for flood-protection purposes, and its shores are covered with dense forest — the reservoir was created without large-scale tree felling.

Water, wind and forest

The reservoir is fed by the Czarna Przemsza and Trzebyczka rivers, and its maximum depth reaches 23 metres. It stretches from Dąbrowa Górnicza (the Piekło district) to Wojkowice Kościelne in the Siewierz commune, serving retention and recreation functions. Entry is free and the site is open all year from dawn to dusk; in the northern part, around Dąbrowska Street in Pastwiska, there is an unsupervised wild beach.

Cycling around the reservoir

The shoreline is served by asphalt paths for cyclists and rollerbladers. The dam separates the waters of a small artificial channel of the Czarna Przemsza — until 2011 it interrupted cycling routes; today it has a passage allowing cyclists to ride around the entire reservoir. You can easily walk between Pogoria III and IV, for example from the dam side. From the southern part a hiking trail leads to the Błędów Desert, and via the Castle Trail from the north you can reach Siewierz Castle, 9.5 km away.

Practical information

Free car parks are located in Ratanice (at Chata u Jana, bus stops for lines 242 and 243), at Marianki Street (Tama Marianki), at the corner of Jasna and Unruga streets in Kostury, and at Dąbrowska Street in Pastwiska.
