Pogoria III Reservoir

Pogoria III is the best-known of the four Pogoria reservoirs in Dąbrowa Górnicza. Like the neighbouring lakes, it was created in flooded sand pits, where sand once used to be extracted for the backfilling of local coal mines. Today it is the most popular summer recreation spot in the area: a vast sandy beach, a wooden pier and a guarded swimming area draw crowds — on warm Sundays finding a parking space takes some effort.

Water sports and diving

The Pogoria III Yacht Club operates by the reservoir, renting out sailboats, kayaks, pedal boats and windsurfing boards; good wind conditions prevail on the lake all year round. Clear water and diving depths of up to 17 metres attract scuba divers, and in winter ice swimmers take the plunge.

A walk around and the neighbouring Pogorias

A path for walkers, runners and cyclists runs around the reservoir, and the promenade by the beach is lined with small eateries and playgrounds. From Pogoria III you can walk through a tunnel to Pogoria IV (Kuźnica Warężyńska) — the asphalt path is suitable for bikes and rollerblades. The neighbours are also worth knowing: Pogoria I has several sailing marinas, while Pogoria II is a silence zone, a haven for birds and birdwatchers.

Practical information

Entry to the reservoir is free; the site is open all year from dawn to dusk. A large free car park lies at Malinowe Górki Street on the southern side, next to the pier, beach and playgrounds; the eastern areas adjoin Zakładowa Street.
