Landscape parks
Władysławowo, Pomeranian
The Coastal Landscape Park (Nadmorski Park Krajobrazowy) protects the most varied stretch of Poland's Baltic coast, north of Gdańsk: the whole Hel Peninsula, the cliffs at Rozewie and Jastrzębia Góra, coastal peat bogs and the shallow Puck Bay. Created in 1978, it was one of Poland's first landscape parks. Think of it less as a single site and more as a protected region of dunes, pine forests, cliffs and salt meadows that you explore on foot, by bike or from the beach.
The park covers 18,804 ha (about 72 sq mi), of which 11,352 ha is water in inner Puck Bay; the land part is 7,452 ha. It includes the entire Hel Peninsula, a narrow coastal strip from Białogóra to Władysławowo, and the cliffs and lowlands along Puck Bay south to Mechelinki. The headquarters is in Władysławowo (vwah-dih-swah-VO-vo), a station on the regional railroad from Gdynia to Hel.
Every type of southern Baltic shore is here: cliffs (Chłapowo and Jastrzębia Góra), dunes (the seaward side of the Hel Peninsula, Białogóra) and low, flooded shores (Słone Łąki salt meadows). More than 40% of the park is forest, mostly pine with black crowberry. Cloudberry, a northern relic, grows here, as does bog myrtle. The Hel Peninsula lies on a major bird migration route, and thousands of ducks winter on the shallow bay. The park actively protects sea holly, a rare dune plant.
Fourteen nature reserves protect the best spots, including Cape Rozewie with its beech forest around the lighthouse, the Chłapowo Valley, the Słone Łąki salt meadows and the Helskie Wydmy dunes. Good long-distance walks:
The park is open and free year-round. Standard protected-area rules apply: cross dunes only on marked paths, do not pick plants and do not disturb birds. The park office (ul. Morska 6a, Władysławowo, tel. +48 58 674 06 85) is open on weekdays 7:30–15:30 and runs an environmental education center for school groups.
With one day, pick one theme: Cape Rozewie with its lighthouse, beech reserve and cliff walk toward Jastrzębia Góra, the northernmost point of Poland; the Hel Peninsula, from the Lubek dune near Kuźnica to the sandy headland at Hel; or Władysławowo itself, with the park office, the Hallerówka museum and the fishing port. Several trail sections follow the railroad, so you can walk one way and ride back.
Spring and early summer bring flowers and nesting birds; fall brings migration and empty beaches. In winter, cliff paths can be slippery and storms erode the shore.
If you like walking, yes: the coastal trails between Rozewie and Jastrzębia Góra are among the most scenic in Poland.
Teren parku dostępny przez cały rok; biuro w siedzibie we Władysławowie czynne pon.–pt. 7:30–15:30.
