Avenue of Sports Stars in Władysławowo

The Avenue of Sports Stars in Władysławowo is a promenade almost directly in front of the gate of the Central Sports Centre in Cetniewo, where since 2000 bronze stars bearing the names of athletes, coaches and journalists have been set into granite slabs. It is the first avenue in Poland dedicated to Polish and international sporting figures, and after 23 editions it held more than 160 stars.

How the avenue began

The idea came from Jerzy Szczepankowski, Maciej Baranowski and the then mayor of Władysławowo, Adam Drzeżdżon, and the avenue was placed under the patronage of the Polish Olympic Committee and the Ministry of Sport. The location is no accident: Poland's national teams have been preparing for their most important competitions at the Cetniewo centre for decades. Today the ceremonies are organised jointly by the Avenue of Sports Stars Foundation, the COS OPO Cetniewo Olympic training centre and the Władysławowo municipality. After the stars are unveiled, the honourees plant commemorative trees in the grounds of the nearby centre.

Whose names you will find

The first edition in 2000 honoured, among others, Irena Szewińska, Janusz Kusociński, Halina Konopacka, Jerzy Kulej, boxing coach Feliks Stamm and football coach Kazimierz Górski. A year later they were joined by Kazimierz Deyna, Robert Korzeniowski, Sobiesław Zasada and Tomasz Gollob. In 2012 Michel Platini received a star, and the 2014 edition belonged to mountaineers: alongside Wanda Rutkiewicz, Jerzy Kukuczka, Krzysztof Wielicki and Andrzej Zawada, Reinhold Messner was honoured. Sports journalists have stars here too, including Bohdan Tomaszewski and Włodzimierz Szaranowicz.

Tripto tips

• The avenue is an open public space with no tickets or opening hours. 20–30 minutes is enough for a relaxed walk and a search for your favourite names.
• The stars are set into the pavement, so they are best viewed on a dry day. In bright sunshine or rain the lettering on the bronze can be hard to read.
• New stars are unveiled in summer; the town announced the 24th edition for 18 July 2026. If you are here on that day, you may see Olympians up close.
• The walk combines easily with a trip to the beach and a stroll around Władysławowo.
