Wieluń Land Museum

The Wieluń Land Museum, founded in 1926 by the Polska Macierz Szkolna educational society, is one of the oldest cultural institutions of the Wieluń region and a centre for research into the area's past. Its main seat at 13 Narutowicza Street occupies a former brick convent of the Bernardine nuns from the early 17th century, founded by Anna née Sroczyński Koniecpolska. In the 1960s archaeological research was carried out on the convent grounds, after which the building was restored and adapted for the museum, near the Wieluń collegiate church.

Three permanent exhibitions

The permanent displays include "Prehistory of the Wieluń Land", "Everyday life in Wieluń villages at the beginning of the 20th century" and "The Tragedy of Wieluń — 1 September 1939", devoted to the first day of the Second World War. The institution also runs the Manor House Interiors Museum in Ożarów, housed in a wooden noble manor with an outbuilding, plus a windmill in Kocilew and the Męczarnia tower.

The museum is open Tuesday to Sunday; current opening hours and ticket prices are best confirmed before your visit. After the exhibitions, explore the remaining traces of old Wieluń, including the Męczarnia tower and the Kraków Gate.
