Złoty Stok Gold Mine

The Złoty Stok Gold Mine is an underground visitor route in Lower Silesia, running through historic workings connected with gold mining. Highlights include the Gertruda Adit, the Black Adit, an underground waterfall and an orange mining train.

What you see on the route

The roughly 500-metre Gertruda Adit presents the mine’s history, old tools, an alchemist’s laboratory and stories about hidden treasure. The Black Adit contains the Death Walk, linked to a legend about people punished for stealing gold. The most striking feature is the underground waterfall, where water drops about 10 metres. The final section is covered by an orange train on a route of roughly 300 metres.

Who it suits

This is a good choice for visitors who enjoy a mix of history, geology and gentle adventure. The route is not highly strenuous, but it includes uneven ground, stairs and narrow corridors. Visitors with limited mobility should check whether these conditions are suitable. Children can visit, although families should consider the cold, darkness and the darker storytelling connected with the Death Walk.

Practical information

The standard visit lasts about 1.5 hours, and the underground temperature stays at 6–7°C throughout the year. Bring a warm layer and comfortable shoes. Polish-language groups enter roughly every 45 minutes and advance booking is not required, although checking availability is sensible in the high season. English guiding requires prior arrangement.
