Colourful Carp Trail of the Barycz Valley

The Colourful Carp Trail runs through the Barycz Valley on the border of Lower Silesia and Greater Poland. It is not one continuous footpath but a dispersed route connecting attractions, monuments, fishponds, educational sites, fisheries and places to eat. Thirty large, hand-painted carp sculptures mark selected locations across several municipalities.

How the trail works

Each colourful carp points to a place worth visiting. Locations include Milicz, Krośnice, Żmigród, Twardogóra, Odolanów, Cieszków, Przygodzice and Sośnie. Along the way you can see fishponds, palaces, timber churches, nature-education centres, the Krośnice narrow-gauge railway and farms selling local carp.

Family game and local food

The trail is designed as active sightseeing with children. Use the map to collect stamps at visited locations, while the official Dolina Baryczy app offers points and a digital map. In autumn, check the Carp Days programme, but opening hours for individual museums, farms and attractions are separate from the trail itself.

Practical information

The colourful sculptures can be viewed free of charge year-round, but museums, railways, palaces and restaurants may have their own admission fees and opening hours. The easiest approach is to plan several stops by bicycle or car rather than trying to see the entire region in one day.
