Manor House in Graboszyce

Graboszyce Manor, about 6 km from Zator, is a Renaissance defensive manor built around 1575 on the initiative of Dionizy (Dziwisz) Brandys. The brick building stands on a rise with a deep moat, and older elements survive at ground level. It is privately owned, not a museum with regular visiting hours. You can see it from the road, but entering the grounds requires the owner’s permission.

History and architecture

The manor was built on the site of an earlier residence and altered over the centuries. It gained Baroque features in the 18th century; a stairwell and bridge were added in the 19th century. Owners included the Cichocki, Krasiński, Russocki and Sołtyk families; from 1864 to 1945 it belonged to the Chrząszcz family. The moat and Renaissance details underline its defensive character. Its condition is uneven: this is not a restored castle or a safe ruin trail.

Planning your visit

Graboszyce lies on national road 28 between Wadowice and Zator. The manor is at the end of the village, about 100 m from the road. There is no public ticket price, regular schedule or confirmed sightseeing offer; see it from outside and do not cross the fence. Opposite stands the wooden Church of St Andrew, dating from around 1585. A park, cycling route and Zator attractions are nearby; Energylandia is about 6 km away.
