The Minor Basilica of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands on Wadowice’s market square, just steps from Karol Wojtyła’s family home. It is not only a stop on a papal trail, but an active church containing very specific places from the future pope’s childhood.
The Holy Family Chapel contains the baptismal font where Karol Józef Wojtyła was baptised on 20 June 1920. He also received his First Communion and Confirmation here and served as an altar boy. A chapel dedicated to John Paul II contains his relics.
The basilica also deserves attention as a historic church and living place of worship. Notice the side chapels, the image of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and the way the church relates to the market square and Wadowice’s historic centre.
The basilica follows the rhythm of services. Check current Mass times and visiting rules; during worship, prayer takes priority over sightseeing.
Tripto podpowiada: Visit the baptismal chapel, then look beyond the famous fact. The font is a small object that connects a private life with the history of the town.
Czynna bazylika; sprawdź godziny mszy i zasady wejścia.
