Mythology Park at Zatorland

In Zator the Greek gods stand on water: figures of Zeus, Athena and Daedalus with Icarus are set on platforms in a pond, and the best way to see them is from the deck of a water tram. The Mythology Park is part of the Zatorland complex, which brings together a dinosaur park, an insect park and a funfair on about 20 hectares. The operator describes it as the only place in Poland where you can explore Greek mythology outdoors.

The park has more than 46 gods, heroes and mythical creatures – from Zeus, Hades and Dionysus to the monsters of ancient tales. The Małopolska tourist board mentions scenes such as Daedalus and Icarus in flight and Achilles fighting Hector. The biggest crowd-pleasers are the 5-metre moving Cyclops and the wooden Trojan Horse, surrounded by a playground – and you can test whether you can find your way out of the Minotaur's Labyrinth. Each figure has an information board, so a walk easily turns into a quick mythology lesson.

A cruise among the gods

The water is what makes this park. A water tram cruise passes close to the figures in the pond, so you can study the gods' attributes and the details of the sculptures. On the shore is the Acropolis Zone, a small town modelled on a Greek polis with food outlets, electric boats and the Zeus Swing Tower (minimum height 105 cm). Children also have three "Conquerors of Olympus" rope courses for different age groups (from 100 cm), a climbing wall and swings.

Zator – more than amusement parks

Zator lies on the Skawa river in the Oświęcim Basin and has been famous for carp farming for centuries – it calls itself the capital of the Carp Valley. Energylandia, opened in 2014, is also within the town, so both parks fit easily into one family weekend.

According to Zatorland's website, the Mythology Park attractions usually run 10:00–18:00; opening days are listed in the season calendar on the park's site. The water tram (PLN 10) and pedal boats (PLN 15) are paid for on site at the landing stage. Allow 1.5–2 hours for the Mythology Park and a full day for all of Zatorland. Kraków is about 50 km away, and Zator can also be reached by train from Kraków or Katowice.
