Bread Cottage (Chlebowa Chata) in Górki Małe

Chlebowa Chata (the Bread Cottage) in Górki Małe is an open-air museum, museum and educational farm in one, set at the foot of the Silesian Beskids in the Brennica valley. Since 2005 the hosts have been showing what village life looked like a century ago – not from behind a rope, but by doing. The heart of the place is the bread oven, and its motto runs: "Because bread doesn't come from a shelf."

From grain to flatbread

The basic programme follows the journey of grain: from the farmer's work and milling, through kneading the dough, to baking flatbreads and tasting them. The extended version adds separating milk, churning butter and making cottage cheese. Children can climb onto a tractor, sit in a carriage and grind grain themselves, while older visitors often rediscover smells and tools from their own childhood.

What's on the farm

• The bread oven and baking workshop area.
• An old cottage with a traditional kitchen and rooms, plus a pottery studio in the attic.
• A mill, old tools and household equipment, vintage vehicles and tractors.
• Farm animals – an extra attraction for the youngest.
• A space for pre-schoolers, a meeting room and an area to round off the visit together.

You can add pottery workshops or an outdoor game created under a cross-border Interreg project. Since 2020 the site has been run by the Chlebowa Chata Foundation, a social enterprise – its income goes back into educational and cultural projects.

Tripto tips

Visits are by prior booking only – it is best to arrange a date by phone. Group demonstrations start from 15 people, and on selected days there are sessions for families and individual visitors (dates are published on the website). Allow 2–3 hours on average. Parking and toilets, including an accessible one, are free, and you can pay by cash, card, bank transfer or BLIK. Address: ul.
