Kossak Family Manor in Górki Wielkie

Key information

Kossak Manor in Górki Wielkie is the surviving part of an 18th-century manor complex associated with the Kossak family and writer Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska. The original manor burned down in May 1945. The ruins were revitalised in 2010 and are now used for exhibitions, meetings and cultural events. Photographs and recordings of Zofia Kossak and her daughter Anna introduce the estate’s history. History and surroundings

The Kossak family settled here during the interwar period. The manor was Zofia Kossak’s home, workplace and a venue for literary gatherings. The nearby Gardener’s Cottage at Stary Dwór 2 is more directly connected with the writer: after returning from exile, Zofia lived there, and a museum was established in 1973. Its four rooms contain family memorabilia, manuscripts, typescripts, correspondence, books, furniture and paintings from the Kossak circle. The park is suitable for a short walk and evening bat watching.

Visiting and planning

Combine the ruins with the Zofia Kossak-Szatkowska Museum in the Gardener’s Cottage. It is closed on Mondays and currently opens Tuesday 9:00–15:00, Wednesday 9:00–16:00, Thursday–Saturday 9:00–15:00 and Sunday 10:00–14:00. Modernisation in 2026 may temporarily relocate the exhibition or change access, so check the organiser’s notice before travelling.
