Wooden Church in Ustroń Nierodzim

St. Anne’s Church in Ustroń-Nierodzim is a wooden monument of the Silesian Beskids. The present church was built in 1769 on the site of an older church. It stands on Zabytkowa Street, among trees beside a cemetery, on the Wooden Architecture Trail.

History and architecture

The first church in Nierodzim may have been built in the 16th or early 17th century. A 1688 visitation record describes a wooden chapel built by Protestants. When the building deteriorated, a new church was erected in 1769; Antoni Goczałkowski, owner of Hermanice, donated the oak timber. Floors and benches were added in 1789. The church is a log-built, shingled, single-nave structure with a narrower, three-sided chancel. The tower was raised in 1938 and is topped by an onion-shaped cupola and lantern.

Interior and visiting

The Late Baroque interior includes a late-18th-century main altarpiece with sculptures of God the Father, St. James and St. Joseph, plus an image of St. Anne Metterza dated 1704. Also look for the Rococo pulpit with Faith, Hope and Charity, choir gallery with organ front, an image of St. Christopher and Stations of the Cross from the first half of the 19th century.
